Description

Community Protection Plans workshops

Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is undertaking community protection plan workshops with the Tathra and Reedy Swamp communities to enhance bush fire preparation.

Community protection plans help us to prepare for bushfire. These workshops will provide information about understanding fire and fuel types (vegetation), relating this to how you can improve your safety in a bush fire, and limit damage to your house and other assets. We will cover personal bush fire preparation, and also discuss how land management authorities, manage their task by investigating the bush fire preparation they undertake. We will also familiarise you with the bush fire alert system promoted by NSW RFS – on the internet and the FiresNearMe App.

One of the exercises will be preparing a bush fire survival plan for your own situation. Collaborative sessions will be undertaken where you will be able to ask questions on a range of bush fire factors you may consider in your bush fire preparation.

Workshops go over 2 days about a month apart, and will be held at 3 locations – grouping as shown on the map below will enable us to emphasise slightly different aspects in each area.

Ideally select the workshop series in the area where you live. If the dates of these present a problem, consider registering for one of the other workshop series. The Thompsons Drive workshop will include more about the environment – consistent with the larger block sizes in that area.

Workshops will go from 10 am to 3 pm. There is no cost to participants, and lunch will be provided.

Please bring your own phone or iPad (& charging chord if needed) so we can help point you to some of the resources that are available to you electronically.

Please register by 10 July 2019. Places are limited to 80 in each workshop – so register early! The Eventbrite system is being used to collate registrations, and help us track any special requirements (diet, access, etc). When registering 5 short questions will be asked - to help gauge what you already understand, and what should cover and how.

  • Workshop 1: Sunday 14th July 10.00am to 3.00pm
  • Workshop 2: Sunday 25th August 10.00am to 3.00pm
  • A detailed program will be sent to you after registration 1-2 weeks prior to the workshop
  • By registering for the first workshop you are registering for the second workshop as well as the program goes over both days

Any difficulties with bookings can be emailed to Andrew Nicholls (andrew.nicholls@rfs.nsw.gov.au) or phoned through to NSW RFS on (02) 4472 0600.

Kind regards

Rural Fire Service NSW
